Gabriella Genisi, one of Italy's most acclaimed crime writers, brings her latest novel to London as part of the Puglian Italian Fest. In this special event, she will delve into the world of Chicca Lopez, her compelling and unconventional carabiniera, and discuss the inspirations behind her newest noir set in Salento.
Through vivid storytelling and sharp insight, Genisi explores themes of identity, justice, and the complexities of modern Southern Italy, offering audiences a unique glimpse into her creative process and the evolving landscape of Italian crime fiction.
Gabriella Genisi will be joined in conversation by Giorgia Scaturro, multimedia journalist and producer.
Gabriella Genisi — Born in 1965 near Bari, in the Puglia region of southern Italy, Gabriella Genisi is one of the country's most celebrated noir writers. She is best known for her Inspector Lolita Lobosco mystery series — a female answer to Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano, rooted in the warmth and colour of Puglia — which was adapted for Italian television, airing on Rai 1 from 2021 with Luisa Ranieri in the lead role. More recently, she has introduced a second protagonist, Chicca Lopez, a young and rebellious carabiniera whose investigations are set in the Salento region.
Giorgia Scaturro — Giorgia Scaturro is the UK voice for Radio24-ilsole24ore and a News Producer at the RAI bureau in London, she also contributes to programmes such as Porta a Porta. She also writes for Ilfattoquotidiano.it, ELLE, and L'Espresso. Based in London since 2005, she works alongside a range of British and international media outlets, including the BBC, Monocle, and Al Jazeera English. Since 2023, she has served as Social Media Manager for the Foreign Press Association in London.
